- Their numbers have grown by 25% since the last survey in 2006
- Half have been without a regular or permanent place to live for a year or more
- 45% are women
- 50% are African-American - a disproportionate share compared to 4% of the Minnesota population overall
- One quarter have more than a high school education; one quarter have less than a high school education
- Two thirds have lived in Minnesota 6 years or more
- 52% have a chronic health condition, such as high blood pressure, asthma or diabetes
- 46% struggle with mental illness and 22% have a chemical dependency
