She died peacefully in her sleep at the age of 57.
We can only imagine what some of the years of her life were like. She had been sporadically homeless since 2002. She suffered from several chronic health conditions. But last year, M was thrilled to move into one of our apartments. She became an active member of the Cabrini community and was close to several individuals she had know when they lived in the shelter together. She was studying to obtain her GED.
Her greatest joy was reuniting with her sons and daughter after losing touch with them for many years. She also visited her sister this summer. While there, she was baptized and was very proud of that.
In reflecting about her, Mary Morris, Executive Director, said, "She was a gentle soul. But she had a quiet strength of spirit. We mourn her passing as we celebrate her life and our good fortune in knowing M."
